12 Nights Exotic Birding Tour of Myanmar

Day 1. Mandalay Arrival and Birding at Mandalay

Arrive to Mandalay and you will be welcomed by the RMT Representative and your Birding Guide. You will then be transported to the one of Water Birds Area you could able to see Glossey Ibis ,Great / little Cormorants ,Egrets ,Herons and any other winter visitor birds and then you will go back to Mandalay downtown, have lunch and check in to your hotel. About 3:00 pm, you will have bird watching again and sightseeing around Mandalay Hill Area. Enjoy the unforgettable sun set at Mandalay Hill and then go back to your hotel.

Day2.Mandalay Birding

After breakfast at your hotel, you will be going to Mandalay Jetty, to have a boat trip in Ayeyarwaddy River and Mingun Area for Bird watching and Sightseeing. After that, lunch at Local Restaurant, and then visit to Taung Thman Lake to have birding around U Bein Bridge. Again have a wonderful sunset at U Bein Bridge and go back to your hotel.

Day3. Mandalay – Alaungtaw Kathapa (Wildlife Sanctuary)

Breakfast at your hotel and you will be then travelling to Alaungtaw Kathapa National Park. On the way, you will need to cross the Ayeyarwaddy River, after that Sagaing and Monywa, and then cross the Chindwin River. Lunch will be at a big village on the way. After lunch, birding at about two places before arriving to Alaungtaw Kathapa (National Park). You will be staying at the local Wooden Guest House.

Over night at Alog Taw Kathapa(Wildlife Sanctuary) Guest House.

Day4. Five Full Days Birding at Along Taw Kathapa (Wildlife Sanctuary)

We will be get two full days bird watching at Alaungtaw Kathapa  National Park. This area is also known as Woodpecker area. We able to see Speckled, White-broed Piculets ,Eurasian Wryneck,Lesser, Greater, Yellonapes, Common, Himalayan ,greater Flamrbacks, Grey-capped Pygmy,Yello-crowned , Streak-throated ,Streak-breasted ,Grey –headed, Pale-headed,Rufous ,Bay, White-bellied ,Great Slaty Woodpeckers, Kalij Pheasant,Great ,Oriental Pied Hornbill,Red-headed Trogon, White-rumped Falcon, Collared Falconet, Black Baza, Blue –eraed, Blue-throated, Liniated Barbets ,Large, Common Woodshrike ,Olive Bulbul, Greater Neckalced, Lesser Neckalced Laughinghrushes and more birds.

Day6. Alaungtaw Kathapa  National Park & drive to Bagan

After breakfast, you will travel back to Bagan (about 6 or 7 hours drive from Alaungtaw Kathapa  National Park) . You will have lunch on the way. When you arrive to Bagan, check in to your hotel. In the afternoon, if you do not want to rest then you will go birding and Sun Set at one of the famous view Pagoda.

Day7. Bagan   Ayeayarwaddy- Birding

After breakfast at your hotel, you will have birding at Bagan. In the morning, you will go birding around Bagan looking for the Chinese Franolin, Laggar Fancon ,Burmese Shrike, Spotted Owlet, Inian Nightjar and other species. After lunch, you will find yourself in a boat in the Ayeyaraddy River enjoying the river Birding where you could see the White –tailed Stonechat, Snad Lark, Spot-billed Duck, Ruddy Shelduck, River Lapwing, Small Pratincole and we can also see wintering bird species at around the Boat trip. At sunset, you will be back to your hotel.

Day8. Bagan-Mt.Popa –Bagan Birding

Drive to Mt .Popa after breakfast .Full day birding at Mt.Popa .We will try one of best bird for Mt.Popa.One of the Endemic Myanmar Bird Hooded Treepie and any other bird Green –billed Malkoha, Rufous Treepie,Whie –throated Fantail,Darian Redstart,hestnut –flanked and Oriental White-eyes ,Lesser Necklaced Laughinghrush and many other species .We will try the whole day.Driver  back to Bagan and sight seeing at Bagan.

Day9. Bagan-Nyaung U-Heho-Inle Lake

After check out from your hotel, you will be transported to Nyaung U Airport for check in to your flight for Heho. From Heho, you will be welcomed by RMT representative and will be transported to Nyaung Shwe. Then, you will be in a private sightseeing boat for the birding in Inle Lake. In the lake, you may be able to see rare Jerdon’s Bushchat, Collared Myna, Striated Babbler, Blue -eared Kingfisher, very rare Sarus Crane, Jungle, Wgite-vented, Collered Mynas ,Water birds  and any other winter visitor birds. Enjoy the whole day birding in the Inle Lake.

Day10. Inle Lake- Kalaw

After breakfast, you will be on your private boat to have Bird watching in morning time at Inle Lake. Check out from your Hotel at about 12 noon and then back to Nyaung Shwe by boat. lunch at local restaurant. After lunch, you will be going to Kalawwhich is about 2 hours drive from Heho. When arrive to Kalaw, you will check in to your lovely hotel. In the afternoon, you will have bird watching about 2 or 3 hours.

Day11. Kalaw Birding

After breakfast, you will be on your private transport car to Yae Aye Kan Area(Cool Water Reservoir) where you could see near-endemic  birds Burmese-Yuhina, Indochinese Cuckooshrike, Dark-backed Sibia, Rusty-cheeked, White-browed Scimitar Babblers, Soty-headed , Brown-breasted, Ashy, Black Bulbuls, Sliver-breasted and Long-tailed Broabills, White –crowned, Black-backed Forktails, White-capped Water Redstard, Warblers and any other species. Enjoy the whole day Bird Watching at Cool Water reservoir and have lunch (Packed Lunch Box) there.

 Day12. Kalaw-Heho and Fly to Yangon or  Mandalay

After breakfast, you will be transported to Heho Airport which is about an hour drive from Kalaw. Fly to Yangon Airport (or ) Mandalay and check in your hotel.  You will have sightseeing and bird watching around Yangon Area (or) Mandalay .

Day13. Departure to Yangon (or ) Mandalay Airport

Drive to International Airport.

Day 1. Yangon Arrival & Bird Photographing at Yangon

Upon arrival to Yangon International Airport, RMT representative and your RMT guide will welcome and transfer you to your hotel. If you have time, you will have Bird Photographing in Yangon for the Exodus of Bats in Shwe Dagon.

Overnight in Yangon.

 

Day 2. Yangon – Hlaw Gar Park  Bird Watching

After breakfast and you will be going to Hlaw Gar Park. You will ride one hour to Hlaw Gar Wildlife Park. You will be able to see the rare bird Pale-capped Pigeon and Racket-tailed Treepie , Green-billed Malkoha, Lesser Racket-tailed and  Greater  Racket-tailed Drongos and Black-crested, Black-headed, Stripe-throated (Davidson’s), Red-whiskered, Red-vented and EndemiceAyeyarwady Bulbul (Streak-eraed Bulbul), Chestnut-capped and Puff-throated Babblers, Scarlet-backed Flowerpecker, Olive-backed, Purple, Ruby-cheeked Sunbirds and some winter visitor bird species and any other birds. Tour end at sunset at about 18:00.

Day 3. Fly to Nyaung U (Bagan) & at Bagan Birding

Leave hotel early in the morning for airport around 5:00am and fly to Nyaung U (Bagan). After check-in to the hotel, a full day birding in Bagan.We will try (6) species of Myanmar Endemic birds Burmese Bushlark, Jerdon’s Minivet (White-bellied Minivet), White-throated Babbler, Hooded Treepie, Burmese Collered Dove (Split from Eurasian Collared Dove) and Ayeyarwady Bulbul (recently spilt from Streaked-eared Bulbul). Vinous-breasted Myna (Starling), Plain-backed Sparrow, Rain Quail,Spotted Owlet, Yellow-eyed Babbler Laggar Falcon and any other wintering visitor bird species such as Siberian Rubythroat, Yellow-streaked Warbler, Dusky Warbler, Eurasian Wryneck , Taiga Flycatcher (Red-throated Flycatcher) and any other species.

Tour end at sunset at about 18:00.

Day 4. Ayeyarwaddy River Birding

After breakfast and birding at Bagan. In the morning time, we will try around  Bagan Chinese Franolin, Laggar Fancon ,Burmese Shrike,Spotted Owlet,Inian Nightjar and other species.After lunch we will visit around  the Ayeyaraddy River by boat .We will try the White-tailed Stonechat, Sand Lark, Spot-billed Duck, Ruddy Shelduck, River Lapwing, Small Pratincole and Striated Babbler we can also see wintering bird species at around the Boat trip. Drive back to your hotel .

Day 5. Bagan-Kanpatlat

After breakfast, you will be on your trip to Kanpelet (Mt.Victoria ) passing through the Chuk Township which one of the Natural  Oil Field Area. After that we will pass the Ayeyarwaddy River and then about 2 hours drive ascending the Chin Hill. Then, you will be able to start the bird watching on the Hilly road while passing by and stop at the sites.

These are the places of Hooded Treepie, Long-–billed Pipit ,White-eyed Buzzard and very rare bird White-rumped Pygmy Falcon, Alexandrine,Rose-ringed, Grey-headed (Finches), Red-breasted, Blossom-headed Parakeets, Small, Rosy and Scarlet Minivets, Large and Indochinese Cuckooshrike, Red-headed Trogon, Velvet Fronted, Neglected (Burmese), Nuthatches (Split from Chestnut-bellied Nuthatch) and any other species. So, on the driveway, you will be looking for and searching for them upto the way to Kanpetlet which you will be reached at about 5 pm. After that we check in to Pine Wood Villa Resort which is situated very near to the Nat-Ma-Taung Wildlife Sanctuary.

Day 6. Kanpelet Birding

You will be enjoying birding two full days at Mt.Victoria (Natmataung National Park) which is a major focal point of the birding tour. It holds a great variety of Eastern Himalayan bird species, near endemic bird species and Myanmar endemic bird species. Early morning we drive up from Hotel to Birding point about one hour drive to altitude between 7,500 ft –(nearly 9,000 ft above Sea level ) “Ten Miles Camp” .

The habitat type of Mt.Victoria is charactered by pine,oak,rhododendron and evergreen forest with shot grassland. In this area, you could be able to see two Myanmar Endemic species .They are White-browed Nuthatch and Burmese Tit. (Split from Black-browed) and Myanmar near-endemic birds Mt. Victoria Babax (split from Chinese Babax), Chin Hills Wren Babbler (split from Long-tiled-Wren Babbler), rare birds Hill Partridge and Blyth’s Trangopan.Assam and Brown-capped Laughingthrsh, Yellow-billed Blue Magpie, White-browed Fulvetta, Spot-breasted Parrtobill , Fire-tailed Sunbird and other species.

As you will be birding the whole day , you will be needed to carry packed lunch and coffee for you. You will be back to Hotel about 5-6 pm.

Dinner at Hotel and over night at Hotel in Kanpelet.

 

Day 7 & 8. Kanpalat Birding

After very early breakfast, you will be going to starting point of Natmataung National Park. Today, you will be birding at the lower altitude of mountain where you can look for Myanmar near-endemic Striped Laughingthrush, Blue-winged Laughingthrush, Crimson-faced-Liocchla (split from Red-faced), Spot-breasted, Streak-breasted Scimitar-Babblers, Striated and Black Throated Prinias, Sliver-eared Mesia, Rusty-capped and Nepal, Fulvettas, Spotted, Chin Hill (split from Long-tailed ) Wren Babblers, Green tailed and Mrs. Gould’s Sunbirds, Yellow-breasted Greenfinch and many other species. After that you will continue bird watching for Hodgason’s Forgmouth and any other Owls.

Overnight in Kanpalat.

 

Day 9.Kanpalat – Bagan

In the early morning drive back to Bagan, and on the way you and your RMT Birding guide will stop at about 2 to 3 places for bird watching.to be able to see Grey-capped Pygmy, White-bellied, Gray-headed Woodpecker, Greater, Lesser Yellownape, Huimalayan,Common, Greater Flameback, Minvets, Orioles ,Bulbuls, Yellow-vented, Scarle-backed Flowerpeckers, any other Leafbirds and Repters . Lunch on the way and will arrive to Bagan about 5 or 6 pm

Day 10. Bagan – Heho – Kalaw Birding

After breakfast,  you will be going to Airport. And fly to Heho. From Heho to Kalaw 1 hr driving and birding at Kalaw. You will be going to Yae Aye Kan Area by car and start birding to be able see near-endemic  birds Burmese-Yuhina ,Indochinese Cuckooshrike, Dark-backed Sibia, Rusty-cheeked, White-browed Scimitar Babblers, Sooty-headed, Brown-breasted, Ashy and Black Bulbuls, Sliver-breasted and Long-tailed Broabills, White-crowned and Black-backed Forktails, White-capped Water Redstard, Warblers and any other species.

Day 11. Kalaw Birding

After breakfast,  bird watching at around Kalaw area. Then, in evening you will be going to Nyaung Shwe .

Day 12. Inle Birding

After breakfast, Birding around Kalaw area and drive to inle lake lunch at on the way restaurant. Arrive to Inle Lake start birding at Inle Lake by boat. Here we can see rare Jerdon’s Bushchat, very rare Sarus Crane, Collared Myna, Glossy Ibis, Purple Swamphen, Pheasant-tailed and Bronze-winged Jacanas, Oriental Pratincole, Cinnamon and Yellow Bitterns, Lesser Whistling and Spot-billed Ducks, Plaintive Cuckoo, Clamorous Reed Warbler, Plain and Yellow-bellied Prinias and Striated Grassbird. We can also see many migrant water bird species and breeding or roosting colony of Egrets, Herons, Little Cormorant, Vinous-breasted, Chestnut-tailed, Black-collared and Asian Pied Starlings, Common, Jungle, White-vented and Collared Mynas.

Day 13.Morning Inle Lake Birding and afternoon fly to Yangon from Heho Airport

 

After breakfast, you will have birding in lake Inle.  Drive to Heho for your afternoon flight to Yangon.

Day14. Yangon Departure

Relaxing morning on your own at Yangon and then you will be picked up by your private car, you will be transferred to Yangon International Airport for departure flight to Amsterdam.
